If the home you own, or the one you are planning to buy, has a buried oil tank you need to know! Depending on the situation, there may be some environmental cleanup costs associated with it. If you are buying a home this could be something to use when negotiating price.
It isn’t always easy to spot a buried tank, but thankfully, home inspectors know what to look for. If your home inspection report notes a buried tank, understand that you will likely have to have it removed, abandoned in place or at least tested. Be advised that this doesn’t apply to above-ground tanks.
