We feed ourselves, our kids and our pets. But think before you feed your garbage disposal. While eggs, potatoes, celery and peaches are pretty tasty and loaded with nutrition, their skins and shells are also loaded with fiber that will upset your garbage disposal. Get in the habit of peeling fruits and vegetables into a garbage bowl and throwing them out or composting them.
The same with egg shells, which can set up like concrete in the bottom of a p-trap. Fibrous or hard materials such as pits, stems and seeds should never go down your drain, nor should any kind of animal fat or other saturated fats which congeal and clog your disposal and pipes. Oh yeah – silverware is not such a great idea either.
