Over time as your home settles, vibrations and temperature changes can cause the joints of your pipes to loosen a bit and you may even see some leakage. Don’t panic, as this is common. And there is a solution that is easy, inexpensive, and likely sitting in your junk drawer – masking tape!
Shut off your water main and unscrew affected pipes at the joint. Dry the pipe and remove debris. Wrap the threads once with plain, ordinary masking tape. Screw the pipe back into place. Masking tape acts as a filler, enlarging the pipe just enough to create a tighter fit. Add another layer or partial layer if needed. Tighten down by hand or wrench. Aren’t you handy?
